Preface

Why are there two missed approach holding patterns depicted, one at DECOT and one at SJC VOR/DME?

1.

Itís a busy area, so ATC needs an option to hold aircraft at multiple missed approach points.

2.

It ensures that a missed approach is available in the event of a navaid outage.

3.

If youíre not equipped to fly the missed to DECOT, the missed at SJC is available.

4.

For noise abatement purposes, ATC has the option to alternate the missed approach track.
