Preface

What is the difference between a discrete and a nondiscrete code?

1.

A discrete code is a one-off code given to only one aircraft in the National Airspace System.

2.

A nondiscrete code is given to multiple aircraft as discussed above.

3.

A discrete code identifies a particular aircraft; a nondiscrete code does not.

4.

Indiscreet codes are not authorized.

And if you thought it was unfair, confusing, or a waste of time, we'd like you to tell us that, too. And if you have an idea for a subject that you think would make a good future IFR Quiz, be sure to let us know.
