Preface

How can the visual glideslope and the ILS glideslope not be coincident if they’re both 3.00 degrees?

1.

The VGSI is aligned with the runway and the localizer isnít.

2.

The VGSI can only be received out to 4 miles, whereas the ILS glideslope intercept altitude is 4.8 miles from the runway.

The glideslope angles are equal, but the threshold crossing heights differ.
