Preface

ATC tells you to “Hold for Release.” When can you depart under IFR?

1.

You cannot depart on your clearance until a release time or additional instructions are issued by ATC.

2.

You can depart VFR and obtain your IFR release airborne.

3.

You can ask for Special VFR and obtain your IFR release once airborne.

4.

You can invoke your SWAP privilege.
