Weekly tips, technique and training from IFR.

Preface

You are at a nontower airport, but you can talk with ATC. ATC reads your clearance and you read it back. Then she says, “Clearance void if not off by 1830Z.” She may also add, “If not off by 1830 advise Departure not later than 1900 of intentions. Time 1827 and one quarter.” What do you do if your engine develops a plug fouling issue and you can’t make the 1830 void time?

1.

Advise ATC right away.

2.

Refile your entire clearance once the plug is cleared.

3.

Start your timer for 2m 45s.

4.

Relax, you’ve got until 1900.
